Medical Services for Women
Dr. Robert Kaufmann discusses menopause, signs of menopause, age of onset, and hormone therapy. Women in their 30s, 40s and 50s could enter menopause. Women typically enter menopause at the same age as their mothers. If you suspect you may be entering menopause, list your symptoms and discuss them with your doctor.
Dr. Robert Kaufmann discusses ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is a rare yet dangerous disease that is difficult to diagnose. If you have a family history of ovarian cancer, see your gynecologist regularly since early detection is the best way to fight the disease.
Medications
As internists, much of our medical therapy is through the use of prescription medications. We strive to explain to you the rationale for our prescriptions and how to take them properly. We ask that you follow these directions as well as those of your pharmacist.
High Blood Pressure
Dr. Kaufmann discusses Weight Loss and Hypertension (high blood pressure). High Blood Pressure is known as the "silent killer" because it has few symptoms. There are medications to help control hypertension, and the condition can be helped by losing weight. Take in fewer calories than you burn. To help weight loss, take the stairs, park further from your home or office, control portion sizes, and read labels.
Diabetes
Dr. Kaufmann discusses Type I and Type II Diabetes, obesity, diet, exercise, and medication. Type I Diabetes generally begins in childhood while Type II Diabetes begins in adulthood. Although there are medications for diabetes, the goal is to not take medicine to be healthy. The best way to control diabetes is to lose weight by reducing carbohydrate and sugar intake and increasing exercise. Even if weight loss is not occuring, excercising 45 minutes each day helps the body burn more calories and improve diabetes.
Sleep Apnea
Dr. Kaufmann discusses the signs and and effects of sleep apnea. Symptoms of sleep apnea include snoring, waking up while catching breath, fatigue, and weight gain. If you suspect you are suffering from sleep apnea, make a list of your symptoms and see your doctor.
Depression & Anxiety
Dr. Kaufmann discusses symptoms of Depression & Anxiety. Having trouble getting out of bed, trouble sleeping, fatigue, loss of interest. Many people suffering from anxiety share these symptoms along with panic attacks. See your doctor if you believe you may be suffering from anxiety or depression. These are treatable medical conditions that your physician can help your control.
Alzheimer's Disease
Dr. Kaufmann discusses memory loss, prevention, early testing, and medications associated with Alzheimer's Disease. If you see signs of decreased memory, visit your physician. Early detection is key. Keep your brain active playing games, reading and doing puzzles.
